We’re thrilled to announce that Ian Knight has joined our team as Technical Lead!
Originally from Hartlepool, UK, Ian's love for soccer started at a very early age. He was successful in attaining his first professional contract with Sheffield Wednesday FC (old first division, prior to the Premier League)...or "just after the dinosaurs", as Ian would say!
Following somewhat of a meteoric rise that saw him capped twice for the England U21 team, a serious leg break injury saw Ian transition into coaching aged 26!
Ian has amassed close to 30 years of experience in professional & grassroots coaching & administration, having led numerous programs and initiatives in England and across Canada. He’s held various positions, including Technical Director and Dir. Operations at respected soccer organizations, and has built a reputation for developing sustainable soccer programs that inspire both players and coaches. His commitment to youth development has been demonstrated through his hands-on approach in fostering talent at all levels.
In addition to his professional journey, Ian is an advocate for creating safe and welcoming environments for children in sports. He has completed extensive training on child protection and is a firm believer in the power of sport to positively shape young lives.
When not on the pitch, Ian enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and continuing his own learning within the game of soccer.
"I’m thrilled to be joining the SYSI family and to have the opportunity to work alongside the dedicated team here. In working with the respective Zone TD's and Alliance partners, I’m excited about what we can achieve together, particularly in terms of elevating both the technical and community aspects of the game in Saskatoon."
