Air Quality Policy

Jun. 16, 2025

Dear SYSI Members, Coaches, Team Personnel, and Referees,

We are writing to inform you of an important update to SYSI’s Air Quality Policy, effective immediately. In an effort to ensure consistency and alignment with the Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA), SYSI has made the following adjustments:

  • Soccer Activity Cancellations will now occur when the Canadian PM2.5 (AQHI+) reading reaches 8 or higher, rather than 7. The change to an 8 rather than 7 brings SYSI in line with the SSA’s sanctioned competitions and the Saskatoon Adult Soccer League policy.
  • Clarification on which Purple Air reading to use: SYSI will use the Canadian PM2.5 (AQHI+) reading available on the Purple Air website (screen shot below). Up unitl Outdoor Season 2024, SYSI was using the Canadian 3 pollutant (classic) (AQHI) reading which has since been placed in an obsolete category; which we are no longer using.

We recognize the need for ongoing review of the most accurate and reliable AQHI tools. SYSI will be working collaboratively with SSA and SASI to evaluate the policy and tools ahead of the 2026 outdoor season.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we continue to prioritize player safety and league consistency.

Sincerely,

Saskatoon Youth Soccer Inc.
